» The Playwrights Project

Since 1996, The Playwrights Project has produced and cablecast 28 original one – act plays including a behind the scenes documentary.  The productions  are the competition winners of the annual Playwrights contest.  This project was created by the late Norman Hall, former PATV Board member and professional TV and stage director.   Robert M. Schaufeld, PATV Board President dedicated the studio control room to Norman’s memory, and renamed the competition; “The Norman Hall Memorial Playwrights Festival” in 2017.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: March 1 through May 15 per calendar year.

Entries must be from Long Island Playwrights.

The guidelines for submissions are as follows:  Original, Fifteen minutes in length, limited to three or four characters and one set – no children.

Limit 2 entries per playwrightScripts will not be returned.  Winners are announced at www.patv.org. Submit typed manuscript to:

Prize is $1,000 and a professional television production of the play valued at $15,000.
This project is supported in part by North Shore Community Arts Council, Sterling Bank, and viewer donations.

A panel of professionals will select 3 scripts for the judging process, which will include staged readings to be put on line for voting by Long Island residents.

One winning play will be filmed as a video production to cablecast on Public Access Television, Channel 20 (Optimum) and Channel 37 (Verizon)  and streamed via patv.org/livestream during the showcase premiere at the studio facility.

 The Playwrights Project airs every Wednesday at 5pm and Thursday at 9:30pm on Channel 20, (Optimum) and Channel 37, (Verizon)
